How’s it going, everyone? Today, we’re covering an interview that I had with Geroge Chanos a few months ago about the technological revolution.
George Chanos served as Nevada’s Attorney General and is an author, speaker, and business consultant. He has been Chairman of Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop Inc. for the past 10 years.
Bridger: There’s been a lot of talk about emerging technologies that will shape the future. What’re your thoughts on that?
George: The technological revolution is this convergence of a myriad of technologies that are going to amplify one another.
For example, 50 years ago, Gordon Moore predicted that computing power would double every 18 months; that has happened reliably.
The multiplying effect we’re seeing right now is having an even greater impact.
Currently, we have a computer that calculates at one quintillion calculations per second.
Ray Kurzweil at Google predicts that AI intelligence will surpass human intelligence in 2029.
This means that it is better to be prepared for these changes than scared or unprepared.
Bridger: Shifting over to Chat GPT, I’ve noticed that it will not comment on things like financial advice or the presidential elections. What are your thoughts on that?
George: Over time, I see the market creating multiple chat bots with different biases. One will be conservative, another will be liberal, and some will be neutral.
I don’t think biases will be eliminated entirely. This is due to government regulations and is probably for the better.
It will come down to consumer preference…
Just look at the news stations: all of them are news, but each of them appeals to a different audience.
Chat bots will be sources of media. You’ll get to decide, “Do I want the MSNBC chat bot or the Fox chat bot?”
Bridger: Speaking of news, it’s amazing that Tik Tok can show me 20 different angles of the same story: multiple personal accounts of people witnessing the same world event. No other media can give you that unbiased perspective.
George: I totally agree, that’s why I’m on Tik Tok every day. This brings me to another point I wanted to hit on: the malleability of the human brain.
Our brains receive 11 million bits of information every second, yet our conscious brain can only process roughly 15 to 50 bits per second.
Knowledge of marketing, social media, and the human brain has made it possible for people to use social media as a weapon.
They can trigger certain emotions with individual-specific content that is harmless.
This can shape public opinion, influence elections, and move us in certain directions.
It’s a threat that we need to address.
From a personal perspective, we need to be aware of this and sensor the volume of social media we digest and be mindful of the specific content we’re consuming.
That’s all we’re covering from the Technological Revolution interview I had with Geroge Chanos!
